As proud members of an agrihood, all of us at Harvest by Hillwood Homes are especially attuned to the seasons. We celebrate the first flowers of spring, the outsized joy of summer, the abundance of fall, and the restfulness of winter. Well, we don’t exactly rest in winter—there’s too much fun to be had (though our book club can recommend some great reads if you feel the need for a day on the couch).
Hardly a day goes past without a party, club meeting, or family activity scheduled. In 2024, our award-winning lifestyle program hosted more than 250 activities and events! Here’s a peek at just some of the fun we had in 2024:
Our bravest residents (and our neighboring first responders!) began the year with a cold dip for a good cause: Our Polar Plunge raised enough money to donate more than 10,500 meals to the Tarrant Area Food Bank!
Another favorite Annual event, Hoops for Hunger, pitted the teens of Harvest against a team from Pecan Square by Hillwood. Our team took home the trophy this year, and the event raised more than spirits—nearly 2,000 meals for the food bank!
The not-so-sporty also had their fill of fun, with Valentine’s Day events, our annual Eggstravaganza, and a Pi-rate-themed Pi Day.
Spring at Harvest always feels like an exciting new beginning, with green shoots sprouting at our on-site farm, where Farmer Ross also tends residents’ seeds in his greenhouse until planting time. Home gardeners also received teaching tips from our gardening experts so they could enjoy fresh food from their own gardens.
Spring Break kicked off with a free play arcade night and kept the fun coming all week. We turned to outdoor activities later in the spring, with activities like luaus, our very own Little Olympics, and Glow-in-the-Dark Capture the Flag!
Sumer in Texas can be hot, but we kept it cool at the pool with dive-in movies, poolside music and more. Refreshing summer treats like watermelon, ice-cream and snow cones kept kids cool and happy, as did a shaving cream war with a firetruck splash-down.
Our Jingle in July event featured fun with a summery Santa, our 4th of July celebration showed our patriotism (and our sense of fun) in a big way, and our community picking days reminded us of the abundance all around us here at Harvest.
Speaking of abundance, we had so many fall activities that it’s hard to call out our favorites!
We loved the cute little stars of our piggy races — Kevin Bacon, Kim Kardashiham, and Spider Ham – and the live music and cornhole games that accompanied them. The armadillos that raced at our Fall Fest were also impressive, as were the calf ropers, and bull riders. And Halloween was full of treats and costumes, including some for our furry family members at our Howl-O-Ween Pawty.
Holidays at Harvest always ring with joyful noise, and this year was no exception. People cheered for the runners in our 8th Annual Harvest Turkey Trot, kids gasped at the sight of the Grinch at our How the Grinch Stole our Jingle Mingle Party, and moms oohed and aahed at the homemade snowman ornaments crafted by the Harvest Littles. And Santa? He showed up so often that some kids probably started wondering if the North Pole was closer than they thought.
At Harvest, we know that every day is a gift—and we make the most of it. We have over 20 clubs and groups that meet regularly for fun, fitness and learning, and in 2024 there was something to look forward to almost every day, from glow bingo to mixology classes to dueling pianos.
Harvest offers something for every season of life. In 2024, the Harvest Littles made crafts, played games, and couldn’t get enough of events like the Celebration for National Comic Day (it’s so exciting to meet Batman!) Teens and Tweens had their own kind of fun, like Gelly Ball Wars, Friendsgiving, and a Color War. Our 50+ group joined together often, sometimes as fans at Thursday night football, as competitors at a bingo dinner, and as contestants at a chili cook-off.
In 2024, Harvest’s neighborhood saw new growth, too, with the addition of these fun amenities:
Harvest also added our third onsite school: Jane Ruestmann Elementary, which is part of the reputable Argyle ISD. We’re thrilled that so many Harvest kids can walk to school.
One of our new Harvest homeowners deserves special mention. In December, Harvest welcomed veteran Army Specialist Josh Sager and his wife Melanie to their new house, the 400th home gifted free by Building Homes for Heroes, in collaboration with Hillwood Communities and Highland Homes.
We celebrated another community hero, too, joining retired U.S. Army Commander Sergeant Major Gretchen Evan as she received a Purple Heart for wounds she received in Afghanistan in 2005.
As you can see, we believe that community means connection, not just through fun, but through giving back. You’ll have noticed mention of our contributions to our community philanthropy, Tarrant Area Food Bank. We’re proud to say that our Harvest neighbors—many of them young people—provided more than 34,009 total meals to the food bank in 2024.
And speaking of pride, we can’t finish up this 2024 round-up without mentioning that Harvest by Hillwood won the Dallas Builders Association’s MCSAM Award for Best Event for public/consumer for our 10th Anniversary Concert (held in 2023). Here’s to another decade of doing life together!
